Spring
Sechseläuten: Festival of the guilds of Zurich. Happens every year between the middle to the end of April on a Monday afternoon. As part of the event a puppet of a snowman (Böög) filled with fireworks is burned on the Sechseläutenplatz in Zurich. The burning of the Böög signifies the end of winter. Traditionally the time it takes for the Böögs head to explode hints at how "nice" the summer will be. If it explodes faster the summer will be better.
Summer
Monday Nightskate: Large group of people skating a predefined route on the streets of Zurich with inline skates. The event happens about once per month between May and September. The route is predefined and the secured by the city police.
Züri Fäscht: Local city festival with music, fireworks, drone- and airshows happening every 3 years. Similar to Seenachtfest Rapperswil but bigger.
Street Parade: Techno / electronic music parade in Zurich. It is the biggest event in the city of Zürich by attendance numbers and also the biggest techno parade in the world. Street parade usually happens once a year on the second Saturday of August. Officially it's classified as a demonstration for freedom, love and tolerance.
Limmatschwimmen: Swim down the Limmat from Frauenbad to the Oberer Letten Badi. Usually this stretch of the Limmat is closed for swimmers, only during special events such as the Limmatschwimmen it is possible to swim there.
Fall
Lange Nacht der Museen (Long Night of Museums): Museums in Zurich are open longer into the evening/night (depends on the museum). With one ticket you can enter all participating museums and there is usually also food stands and parties tied to the event. Typically happens once a year in the beginning of September.
Knabenschiessen: Folk festival in Zurich based around a shooting competition. Boys and girls from the canton of Zurich can participate in the competition. The winner gets dubbed Schützenkönig (shooting king). The competition is accompanied with Chilbi rides (small rollercoasters etc.) and market/food stands. The festival usually happens on the second weekend of September and lasts until Monday afternoon.
Zurich Film Festival: The film festival happens yearly at the end of September. There's usually a pavilion on the Sechseläutenplatz and films are screening in the surrounding cinemas.
Winter
XMAS Market: There are various christmas markets in Zurich. The main one is on the Sechseläutenplatz in front of the opera house with lots of mulled wein, fondue and small market stands with food. There's also a xmas market at the main station (Zurich HB) and there are various mulled wein stands dotted around the city. Bahnhofstrasse and the old town streets are also nicely decorated with lights. The Xmas markets are usually active from the end of November till the 23d of December.
Dolder Ice Skating Rink: The best place to ice-skate in Zurich is at the Dolder Ice Skating rink. It's easily accessible via the Dolder Bahn from Stadelhofen.
Uetliberg Uto Kulm Winter Magic: A great place for a quick hike or experiencing the snow (if there is any). During winter there is usually a mulled wein stand, food and some Xmas decorations up there.

Hiltl Sihlpost: Vegetarian & vegan buffet. Also offers take-away. Good for a quick snack or an easy meal. They also have a robot called Billy that transports dishes. 5 stars for the robot alone, but the food is good too.
